Musicians Lim Yong Ju and Noddy Woo recorded the album ‘BBUREKA’ in their studio in Seoul while an urban redevelopment project was taking place nearby. At the heart of the album is the feeling of unease caused by the violent cacophony of construction noises.
Inspired by the explosive strength and noise of the jackhammer (called ‘BBUREKA’ in Korean), they designed the soundscape of their dynamic 9-track album using samples from the construction site, as well as sounds from their analog modular synthesizers.

In Korea, an urban redevelopment project is usually a process of completely demolishing a building to the ground then building a new one over it, rather than renovating or reconstructing the existing building.
